Info: In this class we will cover the Straighten, Perspective Correction, Crop, and Scratch Remover tools.
1. Extract the photo from intclass7dl.zip. Duplicate and close the original in case you need it again. I chose this photo because it is crooked, and out of perspective. It is a family photo taken a few years ago. I am the one in purple and pink in case you are wondering.
2. The first thing we are going to do is straighten the photo. Click on the Straighten tool using Default settings. A horizontal straightening bar with end handles will appear in the center of the image.
3. Click in the middle of the straightening bar and holding down the left mouse button drag the bar so that the left handle is at the top edge of the white part at the bottom of the photo.
4. Click on the end handles and drag them to align the straightening bar with the white edge. Make sure you move the handles to each corner of the photo. Click apply in tool options.
5. Besides needing to be straightened this photo is out of perspective so let's fix that. Click the Perspective tool. This time we are going to use the blue borders to the right and the left as our guide. Drag each corner handle of the bounding box until the sides of the bounding box follow the edges of the top, bottom, and the inside of the blue edges on both sides.. To apply the correction, click apply in the tool options palette or double-click anywhere on your image.
6. We could have been cropping the image as we went along using the Crop Image option in Tool Options palette but I wanted to get rid of the date on the image so decided to wait. Click on the Crop tool using Default settings. Starting at (x:75, y:9) holding down the left mouse button drag to (x:539, y:335) and release the mouse button. To crop the image, click apply in the tool options palette or double-click anywhere on your image.
7. Now let's remove the brown water stain at the top of the wall to your left using the Scratch Remover tool. This tool works great but it only works on background (flattened) images. Click on the Scratch Remover tool. Starting at either end of the brown water stain click and drag until the bounding box surrounds the water stain then release the mouse button. When you release the mouse button it will auto apply.
8. Use the photo enhancing tools we covered in the last class to fix this photo.
Note: That's it. Don't forget to take the time to explore the settings of the tools we covered today.
