Info: This class will cover some of the retouch tools and the Color Replacer tool.
1. Extract intclass8dl.zip which contains the photo we will retouching. All the tools we will be covering are on the Tools toolbar if you do not see the tool you need click the little black arrows beside the tools. The Color Replacer is in the same spot as the Dropper tool. The Retouch tools are in the 2 spots below the Clone tool.
2. When changing tools ALWAYS reset to default then change the settings. The Reset to default button can be found in the Preset menu on the Tool Options palette.
3. Open intclass8dl1.jpg, Duplicate, and Close the original. I chose this image because it has all sort of little problems we can fix.
4. Select the Lighten/Darken tool Size = 200 and Hardness = 75. This is actually 2 tools. To use the Lighten tool you use the left mouse button. To use the Darken tool you use the right mouse button. Note: The same applies to the Saturation Up/Down and Hue Up/Down in which case the left mouse button is used for Up and the right mouse button is used for Down. There is an option in the Tool Options palette to Swap mouse buttons.
5. Place your mouse somewhere around (x:546 y:473) left click and holding down the left mouse button drag up to the top and release. This lightens that dark corner.
6. Change the size to 20. Place your mouse around (x:434 y:199) and holding down the right mouse button this time follow the edge of the train. This will eliminate the glare by darkening the glass.
7. Select the Push tool Size = 20. What we are going to do is push the color from a good area over the red box in the grass. Place your mouse around (x:107 y:171) and hold down the left mouse button drag to your left. You may need to do several strokes to eliminate all the red box. Note: A tester said this was easier for her when she set the size to 8.
8. Select the Smudge tool Size = 20. Holding down the left mouse button in little circular motions go over the area where the red box was. This will blend the colors and make it look more natural. Note: A tester said this was easier for her when she set the size to 8.
9. Select the Sharpen tool (the one on the Toolbar not the one on the Adjust menu) Hardness = 100. Holding down the left mouse button drag over the buildings. It will take several strokes to get all the buildings. What we are doing is making the building stand out more. While you are at it go over the sign on the post too.
10. Select the Color Replacer tool Hardness = 100. Change your Background color to #FFFBFF (the color of the sky) and change Foreground color to a light blue I used #E5EDF9. Before we use this tool let me explain to you how it works. If you left click once it changes the pixels inside the brush outline that match the Background color to the Foreground color. If you double left click the Color Replacer changes all the pixels in the entire image that match the Background color to the Foreground color. To change from the Foreground color to the Background color you use the right mouse button. Now with that said put your mouse somewhere in the sky area and double left click.
11. Select the Soften tool. The edges of the train station roof that meets the sky looks pretty jagged so let's Soften them up a bit. Holding down the left mouse button drag along the edge of the roof. It may take several strokes to get it all and you may need to go back over some areas.
Note: That's it for this lesson. I included my retouching results (intclass8dl2.jpg) in the download file. There are more retouch tools you can use. You don't have to just use them for photo retouching. There's all kinds of neat stuff you can do with them. Check out my tutorial at http://psp8class.ccsite.net/tut8eff/les14zjh_v8cc.htm which covers some more of the retouch tools.
